Tooth extractions are usually carried out using simple methods; however, in some cases teeth cannot erupt normally in the mouth or remain impacted in the jawbone. In such cases, surgical tooth extraction is required. The most common example is wisdom teeth remaining fully or partially impacted. How is it carried out?
Examination and Imaging
The position of the tooth, its root structure, and the surrounding tissues are examined using a panoramic X-ray or 3D tomography.
Anaesthesia
The area is numbed with local anaesthesia. For children or individuals with disabilities who find cooperation difficult, sedation / general anaesthesia may be preferred.
Surgical Intervention
The gum tissue is carefully opened and, if necessary, a small window is created in the bone so that the tooth can be removed in a controlled manner.
Cleaning and Suturing
The area is cleaned, the risk of infection is prevented, and sutures are placed.

What happens if impacted teeth are not extracted?
Over time they can lead to infection, cyst formation, decay in the adjacent teeth, and crowding. They can also cause problems that progress as far as jaw joint disorders.
Is impacted tooth extraction a painful procedure?
No. It is performed completely painlessly under local anaesthesia. There may be some tenderness for a few days after the procedure.
Should wisdom teeth always be extracted?
No. If they are in the correct position, free of decay, and functional, they may not need to be extracted. However, impacted / partially impacted teeth with the potential to cause problems generally should be extracted.
What should I pay attention to after the extraction?
In the first 24 hours you should avoid spitting, using a straw, and hot foods. The antibiotics and painkillers prescribed by the dentist should be taken regularly.

Yes. The time may differ depending on the patient’s age, general health, and the position of the extracted tooth.
